Touring Ensemble

Luminosity’s Touring Ensemble is for committed dancers ages 12-18. In addition to weekly classes, this ensemble will perform in the Children’s and Youth Ensemble season shows and outreaches as well as their own end of season performance and outreaches in April. Dancers will also have the opportunity to tour with the daCi gatherings each Summer (Maryland 2026, Malaysia 2027, Idaho 2028).

ABOUT

Luminosity’s Touring Ensemble is a faith-based dance program providing a creative and performing dance experience for youth ages 12-18. Through weekly rehearsals and extra performance opportunities dancers will develop and progress in dance technique, composition, and performance skills while working with others in a positive and professional environment.

There is no audition required, but previous dance experience is a must before joining the Touring Ensemble. Dancers need to be ages 12-18 as of September 1, 2025. Register online to reserve your spot (minimum 6 dancers required).

COMPANY MEETING

At the beginning of each season we will have a company meeting to introduce ourselves, set the performance day and time, discuss outreach opportunities, discuss policies, volunteer for various company needs, set the costume budget, and answer questions. Dates for fall and spring breaks and holidays will also be set at the season’s parent meeting. Parent or guardian attendance is mandatory to participate. If you are unable to attend the initial parent meeting, contact Micah Taylor for an alternative meeting before joining rehearsals.

In addition to scheduling details, dancers will begin planning their performance at this first meeting — choosing a theme, submitting choreography ideas, sketching costume ideas, and more. Though we won’t be dancing, it will be a full and fun time to start the season together!

TUITION & FEES

There will be no charge for tuition for weekly classes. In exchange for free dance instruction and a professional experience, families are asked to volunteer for different company needs in return (such as scheduling the building, printing programs, etc.). Options are detailed in the Volunteers document and sign ups will be at the Company Meeting.

Touring Ensemble families are responsible for:

  • Rehearsal notebook ($8-12)
  • Costumes each year for their dancer ($30-80 as decided at the parent meeting)
  • daCi Gathering registration (though scholarships are available and can be applied for and received/denied before committing to the gathering):

REHEARSALS

Each dancer’s attendance, attitude, and effort affects the whole company. Please commit to being on time and prepared for all rehearsals and performances. If dancers miss a class they may lose the privilege of participating in a specific piece for an upcoming performance. If dancers miss the warm up, they will be required to do an alternative warm up on the side before joining the class.

Please do not bring dancers more than 5 minutes early or pick them up 5 minutes late.

DRESS CODE

Hair must be pulled back out of the face in a ponytail or similar style, no jewelry.

Dancers should wear plain colored tops (no prints) that have sleeves and cover the midriff while moving (a leotard is recommended, not required) with pants or capris (should cover the knee and should not extend past the heel, for safety). All attire should allow for ease of movement and be fitted in order to see alignment and allow for accurate feedback.

Dancers can dance barefoot, wear ballet slippers, closed toe lyrical shoes, or tan jazz shoes for class and for the performance.

HOMEWORK

Dancers are expected to practice choreography at home and use their Rehearsal Notebooks weekly to record and journal their growth, experiences, and goals throughout the year.

If dancers are lead choreographers for a piece, they are expected to come prepared with a rehearsal plan (movement or prompts to use choreography time efficiently).

PERFORMANCES

Luminosity’s Touring Ensemble will perform their own show in April — professional choreography as well as numbers created or co-created by the dancers will be featured. Though show length will vary each season, expect between 20 and 45 minutes long. Inviting family, friends, and neighbors is encouraged. Families are asked to help set up chairs before the show and help clean up after the show.

Additional performance opportunities include:

  • November – guest number in the Children’s and Youth Ensembles performance
  • November – guest number in the Youth Ensemble outreach
  • March – guest number in the Children’s and Youth Ensembles performance
  • March – guest number in the Youth Ensemble outreach
  • April – Outreach Performances locally (likely 2-3 assisted living centers)
  • June – number as part of the daCi Gathering Performances
  • June – outreach performance and/or workshop in the daCi Gathering host city

PICTURE DAY

We will use some of rehearsal time one or two days throughout the season to take individual and group photos. All photos and videos taken throughout the season and of the performance will be shared with the registering parent via email by the end of the season.

PHOTO RELEASE

Families will receive free digital copies of all photos and videos taken of their dancer(s) throughout the season. By joining Luminosity, you give Luminosity permission to use photos and videos for promotional purposes for Luminosity or a Luminosity affiliated event without compensation.

CONDUCT

Luminosity Touring Ensemble dancers are expected to fully participate to the best of their abilities during rehearsals and performances. Please commit to cooperating with others, being respectful and kind to each other as well as audiences and professionals we’ll interact with throughout the season. Dancers are expected to uphold the mission of Luminosity through their conduct:

Through the medium of dance, we share our intrinsic brightness of the Light of Christ and our Divine Nature as we aim to become celestial beings together. We seek to radiate light and goodness through wholesome dance by performing inspiring and relatable original dance works.
