Luminosity is a performing creative dance group that invites all to celebrate who we are as children of God, where we came from and where we hope to go. The dance company was started by Micah Taylor as a way to shine God’s light through dance in the San Francisco Bay Area. 

“Luminosity” is a scientific term for two distinctly different phenomenon, one for astronomy and the other for physics: 1) the intrinsic brightness of a celestial object; 2) the rate of emission of radiation, visible or otherwise. Through the medium of dance, we seek to share our intrinsic brightness of the Light of Christ and our Divine Nature as we aim to become celestial beings together. We seek to radiate light and goodness through wholesome dance by performing inspiring and relatable original dance works.

From the Director

Dear Parents and Dancers,

Thank you for your interest in Luminosity Dance Company! I have been dancing since I was 4 years old and haven’t stopped dancing since — my passion for artistry and athleticism has only grown. My dance training includes contemporary, modern, jazz, tap, ballet, social, and world dance. I earned my Bachelor’s of Arts in Dance Education from Brigham Young University. During my studies at BYU, I performed, choreographed and taught with the three Contemporary Dance companies at the University throughout Utah, Colorado, Idaho, India and China, and within the University dance program. I danced professionally with Salt Contemporary Dance for a season after graduating. I have taught hundreds of individuals ages 1 to over 70 and continue to get excited by the creativity of new students and the joy of watching them make connections through dance. I started Luminosity in 2017 connecting dance to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and have enjoyed sharing that experience with everyone who wants to join me.

The company rehearses regularly with rotating seasons and performance opportunities. Each class includes warm up, conditioning, proper dance technique training that is challenging yet age and skill appropriate, creative dance exploration, choreography, and cool down. We dance in unity, in small groups, and as solos throughout the class (and potentially in the performance) building a safe and respectful environment for all. I ensure sound teaching practices as a professional as well as use music and movement that is wholesome and age appropriate. Age groups in Luminosity vary depending on interest and enrollment each season.
